Even Bangkok will tell you to come back nearer the time your stamp ends if the mood takes them!

Technically that's correct but for a 30 day extention many Imm Offices will tell you to come back when you have a week or less left on your entry stamp. So I wouldnt bother going too early!

Im based in Ubon and spend 3-4 days in Laos or Cambodia every 90 days, makes a nice change. The multi entry is handy if you need to travel anytime, even back to the UK a couple of times, no hassle, no visa issues.

I dont even bother with yearly extentions, Ive lived here on the multi-entry O for about the last seven years, no need to keep the money in a Thai bank, no need for re-entry permits, nice holidays to Laos/Cambodia or anywhere every 3 months

plus a 60 day visit family extention on your last entry giving you almost 17 months.

You can get the multi-entry in Savannakhet for 5000bt, no funds needed, it gives you 17 months but you need to border bounce every 90 days and then do a 60 day visit family extention.

You certainly can open a bank account by yourself, you dont need Siam legal. I changed up some Sterling in an SCB branch in Ubon and they asked me if I wanted to open an account, didnt ask what type of visa I had, just asked for my address. No residence cert or cert from British Embassy.

Thai banks dont have different criteria for opening bank accounts. Yes, some managers might be wary of foreigners opening an account but there's no law to stop anyone opening an account at any bank providing they can prove their address or have someone guarantee their address. Siam legal aint the be all and end all of what happens in Thailand!

You can open a bank account on a visa exemption you just need proof of your address or someone to guarantee your address. The bank you choose makes no difference

Most Imm offices are 30 days, some may ask you to come back when you have a week left on your stamp.
