What do you mean "cannot be changed in Thailand"? For an O/A you just need to show you have substantial assets in your home country.

?? ..don't know maybe someone else will. I thought a O was only available in Thailand. We have O's and the extension always requires a letter from the bank no older than the day before we renew, plus copies of every page of the passbook for the past 12 months.

I think you need to get an O/A (no bank account needed) and convert to an O when you get back in Thailand.
