Use the Thai driving licence to travel domestic in Thailand ,I've used my one loads of times ,no need for passport until fly international.

I don't think he manages to do this now and Immigration clamping down on long stay tourists now since post COVID,they prefer them to have long stay visa like Non O visa

If you have loads of entry and exit stamps they will probably ask ,if only enter 3 times a year or less they probably won't ask ,this is based on experience before I got my Retirement visa
