Not essential if you get a non-o and not an o-a

Go to immigration and request an extension that they will deny but still give you a 7 day extension to leave Thailand. 1900 baht but no overstay repercussions.
Stephen *******
Yes, that stamp makes no difference. It's a lot better than overstay.

A phone plan and a carrier lock are two different things.

If you come visa exempt you'll be stamped in for 30 days extendable at immigration in Thailand for another 30 days. If your O-A is approved and you leave and re-enter you would be stamped in for a year. But you need to enter to get the new stamp

Assuming your phone isnt locked to a carrier

Brandon Thurkettle Hmm. It does say "The first application for extension of stay by the foreigner is equivalent to the notification of staying in the Kingdom over 90 days." But I have heard where they don't do it and then shake you down for not reporting. Make sure they gave you a 90 report slip. Be careful.

90 days in Thailand! Starts on your arrival date.

You're not required to book at the same time, just submit to Thai Pass at the same time. Can be different hotels in different locations.
