Thailand is very strict about what countries they let in. Tell your friend to contact the Royal Thai Embassy in her country. They are very helpful. Not all countries have free travel. Good luck
Apply while you are in the UK the process is very easy and the Royal Thai Embassy team and portal are very user friendly. I did this process 3 years ago. Got approved in 3 working days. Visa certificate in hand in 5 working days. No immigration visit to our home. Very Sabi Sabi. Here's the link if you don't have it:
I use this company I'm over 60 so it costs me 132USD for 400,000 USD coverage including surgery and they pick the bills up at the hospital. It only goes up if I claim.
First year, you need to deposit 400,000THB as soon as you get here. Then you only need to transfer 40,000 THB per month from as soon as you get here. This is small money. I really don't know any Farang that can survive on 40k. You need to apply for a Non-O Visa before coming to Thailand. A very easy process which you can do with the help of your wife.
I bring over a minimum of 100,000k per month and live very well on that. I'm 63 and my health insurance 132USD per month for 400,000USD coverage.
Here's the Official Royal Thai Embassy Portal where you can apply in most civilized countries.
I use this company for 400,000USD coverage. I'm 63 and pay 132USD per month. As long as I don't claim there's no increase. They cover until 99. Email Michael for a quote.
I give it 30 days before end date. Works for me in and out 20 minute's. Extension by marriage they always need more time than a straight up retirement.
If you are applying from the UK via the Royal Thai Embassy. You need to use their Official online portal. There is no need for a Police check and don't ask for it on their portal. You do need the following if applying for a multi entry Non O: Scanned copy of your passport. 2 passport size photos, one bank statement no older than 3 months old with a balance of more than 10k. Scanned copy of your wife's Thai ID and a scanned copy of the marriage certificate. When scanning you need to save in a JPEG format and NOT PDF. If you apply on a Sunday you will have your visa back accepted in under 10 working days. You need to send the photo copies of the scans including the two passport photos. Don't send your original passport. Also included a stamped address envelope. It's a very easy process and the Royal Thai Embassy team are outstanding. Good luck.
