I'd advise to spend more than one day abroad. The only time I was questioned at Suvarnabhumi by an immigration official was when I did a 1 day run to Kuala Lumpur.

Getting out of a hole is always hard. Moving to a place you don't know, where you are at a disadvantage of being a foreigner will only make it harder. People in your situation usually move to countries with more robust economies to get their financial situation sorted. Never say never - but ask yourself honestly: "do I know how things work in Thailand?". Given your very tight budget you wouldn't have any cushion in case things go wrong.

It's tempting to leave everything behind and start fresh, I get that, but let's be realistic. I think the best course of action for you right now would be to improve your financial situation. Life can be hard, but as everything in it, it will pass. You can always go to Thailand when you are doing better.

Just to add to the "WISE" comments - been using them since 2013 and never had an issue. There have been occasional issues with unauthorized access to my digital debit cards, which I suppose is normal these days. I simply reported these and Wise refunded me every time. Once I also submitted a claim to Google for a refund in a very similar case and they politely told me to gtfo. I was glad it all went through my wise card - otherwise I would have no way to get the money back.

Better extend than overstay. The latter will be on your record.

I think it will just change the demographics. 2022 was the year of Russian tourists due to the RussoUkrainian war and the uncertainty of draft in Ru. Phuket was largely Russian speaking at the time (I was there). I would expect things to be more balanced now.

Anecdotal - I've been facing this in the EU multiple times as an IT contractor. In private conversations everybody would say the same thing - it's not enforceable, noone can force you to give up your only way of making a living for a long period of time. In the beginning of my career I had this type of clause in my contracts a few times and it was never enforced. People generally understand, that someone who's forced to stay will not make a good and productive employee, so they just let you go if you want to. Later in my career I simply refused to sign unless such clauses were taken out.

If you arrive at Suvarnabhumi, then there's quite a walk from the arrival gate to immigration. You can just take a sit and wait. Plus, there's almost always a line.
