nope. I’m on a Non O for retirement. 4 days and numerous branches of both Kasikorn and SCB in the petchabun/phitsanulok areas denied at all. Krungthai in the end accommodated me without any fuss
It should be ok with a marriage visa as all those that refused me wanted a marriage visa before they would consider me
the reason for all of the rules change is due to corruption. A couple of weeks ago some bank workers got busted opening fake accounts for Chinese money laundering. Since then everything has changed. This in the last two weeks alone.
I’ve just been through this. I spent 4 days trying to open an account. Unless was either married or had what’s called a yellow house book I was refused by both Kasikorn and Siam Commercial Bank. Thai was in the Phetchabun/phitsanulok areas. It seems in places like Pattaya it’s still easier to open an account.
The staff at SCB told me that the week before there were staff meetings where they were informed NOT to open accounts for foreigners. I’ll reiterate though that was in the areas I tried.
I finally managed to open an account with Krungthai Bank without any hassle.
When you get closer to coming I suspect things will have settled more. Understandably the banks are waiting for Government fallout on this before deciding on what to do.
This group can be excellent for up to date advice. My advice is seek up to date advice just before you leave the U.K. on the current state of affairs.
But an agent at the moment is a good way to proceed.
yes. Not married. I had certificate of residency from immigration and a utility bill in the form of a Mobile bill. Me and my fiancé are living with relatives until our home is built so there is not rental agreement. I eventually managed to open an account with Krungthai. Not ideal but at least it allows me to transfer the 800k for extension of stay
Krungthai is 500K. Did it today to satisfy my 800K
To be straight I did t want to go to Krungthai but Bangkok Bank has now presto much stopped Foreign accounts. Kasikorn rejected my application several times and SCB flat out refused to even apply.
I will try again for other banks I just needed an option for my initial 800K to guarantee extension of stay
of course I do. I was just giving first hand, recent experience from my area. That being said the lady from SCB stated it was in line from what their head office was handing down. Hopefully with others given their experiences we can get a better, local understanding of trends.
I’ve already checked my Krungthai transactions from wise and they are marked with a code that translates as international transfer. I intend to try in Bangkok for either Kasikorn or SCB but as I was declined by a system generated application the omens aren’t good. It wasn’t a refusal by the branch.
I note you’ve been with your banks for years. As I stated we were informed by bank staff, local branch or not, that these are extremely recent developments
unfortunately recently much has changed due to the Chinese money laundering scam in Pattaya. Kasikorn rejected me three times. Even though the application was made it was rejected by the system, no reason given. SCB rejected 4 times. On the last occasion the lady did tell us that the previous week there were staff meetings locally where due to the Pattaya issue no accounts where to be given to foreigners unless married to a Thai or had yellow house book. Prior to that meeting they were opening accounts for all non O visas!!
Luckily Krungthai opened an account for me. This was in the Phetchabun/phitsanulok area. Looking at comments though this issue seems widespread. Even some agencies are stated that as of next month they might not offer this service anymore.
it was in Lom Sak. Absolutely no problem whatsoever. They didn’t even blink. The only query they had was why where we in Lom Sak when home is Phetchabun. We were visiting sick relative. They were happy with that. So easy
