Do you need to specify an exact entry date when applying for a DTV visa for Thailand?

When I applied I had a date in mind, but wasn't 100% sure I would be able to. so I gave them the date that I hoped to arrive. If they has asked for proof of flight I would have purchased the ticket and pushed hard to make that date or spent the extra money to buy refundable ticket.
