Is a monthly income of $3,000 sufficient for a retired couple to live comfortably in Bangkok?

It will very much depend on your level of accommodation, rents in major cities are not cheap, and although bkk is cheaper than most, the rent could chew up a lot of your income. Suggest you consider other places to live, eg Chang rai or the issan area.

Just keep the old passport with visa. When u renew or get new visa, it will go in the new passport. Therefore no need to do anything at this stage
