speaking from the perspective of a US citizen the banking system is different in Thailand. I think he is asking questions because banks operate differently so he is asking for clarification.
I can access banks throughout the US without ever needing to visit the branch where the account was opened and there are no regional fees charged for ATM.
I think he is trying to learn from others experiences.

IMO, there are 90 million people between the two countries, the odds of me being affected are about the same odds as me facing danger in my everyday life.
I have been in Bangkok 10 days. I am thinking I can take a day to visit the immigration office and ask them what I need then return with what ever I am missing.
I am retired, I have more time than money. (Not that I am broke), but it seems another way for me to learn about the culture.
