Thai people also regularly tip govt officials for service, not only foreigners, it's just the amount that varies. You can say no but then you will deliberately be dicked around, ignored or have to wait longer, up to you!

No drama unless you are stopped by Police. 1 day overstay can see you held in detention and blacklisted from entry for 5 yrs which is exactly what happened to a friend of mine.
