they are clean as far as I didn't overstay, and I got them at the places stated on the stamp. I got one at the Cambodia border and I extended it at chaeng watthana for 30 days. The only issue is the 30 day extension stamp has the wrong date on it (7th instead of 1st). I got the correct "departed" stamp when I got the extension, so everything is clear enough in my passport with a proper inspection. I then left before I overstayed. I guess I slipped through the net back then

yeah, you're right, I think that particular thread was for someone who re-entered while their extension was still valid and got stamped in on that. I just wish I was more aware of the situation at the time. My company back then sort of encouraged me to do it the way I did because I was leaving. I guess they didn't want to bother with the paperwork. I'm glad that the worst case for me is a fine that can be easily paid.

thanks for this information. Looking it up online is a little stressful as an old post on the popular visa forum site suggested that not cancelling the extension could be classed as overstay and I've been away for 5 years so that's a 10 year ban. When I left originally I did a border bounce and changed to a visa exempt so I was under the impression that everything was cancelled so when I departed Thailand, I left on a valid visa so there no overstaying or any other such extreme suggestions. I expect that now I'm coming back there will be a punishment in the form of a fine for not following the correct process. I just really want some clarification on if the fine is the only penalty/punishment so I can reset everything and get back on track in Thailand.

It's an unfortunate situation as at that time, I was a bit disillusioned and certain I would never be returning, but of course things change and I'm now very eager to come back.
