I know Penang based on feedbacks can be quite strict regarding proof of accommodation and people are asked to provide a confirmed booking for the whole stay in Thailand. If this is the case for everyone, I don’t know and I’ve read that the embassy in Kulala Lumpur could be less strict.

It’s rarely checked at the immigration, but you can risk your airline will ask for it and potentially deny you check-in as they can be fined and responsible for your return if formal requirements aren’t fulfilled. I would advise you to call your airline and ask or/and buy a cheap onward ticket out (£ 30 -40). If you apply for a tourist visa before you leave you’ll cover all your stay in once and you don’t need to spend time and money at the immigration in Thailand for an extension either.

You have two options;

-apply for a 60 days tourist visa online before you leave.

-arrive without any visa on a 30 days visa exemption and extend it with 30 days at your local immigration. Formally you’ll need an onward ticket out of Thailand within 30 days if you arrive on visa exemption, even though you are entitled to an extension.

For a six months stay it’s most convenient to apply for a six months multiple entries tourist visa at the embassy at home before you leave. You’ll have to do one border run or crossing and two local extension at the immigration to get a six months stay in total.

And
@Elizabeth ****
if you from the south of US you can see the requirements and apply online here;

For O-X I really don’t know as you gets stamped in until the end of the five years period of the visa each time you enter, unlike the Non O-A which get you stamped for a new year each time. If you leave and re-enter, I guess you might risk they will check your insurance as it’s mandatory also for a O-X, but if you’re already stamped in I guess you don’t have any other risk except the insurance coverage itself.
@Jim *******
seems to have good knowledge regarding Non O-X visas on this page, and I hope he can advise you further.😉

You should apply for a six months multiple entries tourist visa at your embassy at home in the first place. This gives you up to nine months in Thailand and you can investigate your options further.

Correct, they have to be seasoned in your bank in Thailand for two months when you apply for your first extension of stay based on marriage.

You should start immediately as you need to show proof of twelve months consecutive transactions over sea to switch to the income method. After your extension of stay based on the income method is granted, you’ll don’t need to keep any funds in your bank anymore.

Yes, a regular 90 days Non O can be applied for in Thailand on tourist visa or visa exemption. Non O-A can only be applied for at the embassy/consulate at your permanent residence.
