Yes a medical certificate is needed. It costs about 300thb (that’s what I paid) Don’t do it until you get here otherwise it’s probably a scam

I have a little. From what I understand Australia doesn’t offer a 12 month non o visa anymore only a 3 month visa?

thanks. I live on Samui so I will ask and find out otherwise I’m thinking I have to go to Thai immigration outside the country as places like Penang seem to be a little more lenient on requirements.
