You have to do the 65k deposit for 12 months to change over from the 800k method for extension is stay based on retirement and Feb to Oct is not 12 months so the simple answer is ( probably) no

 it’s not at all illogical it is clearly stated in the visa requirements it is ‘your understanding’ that is incorrect
