That would be exactly the visa I would go for. My house is 30 minutes from the border and I wouldn't need the ฿400,000, paperwork, multiple trips to Immigration in Mae Sai (where the border is anyway) and all the hassle that comes with it. I also quite like the idea of a yearly jaunt to Savannakhet to get one :)
I understand that some people would prefer an extension of stay, but to suggest that others with valid visas are somehow in the wrong is just plain ignorant.
I would just show your area, then a short bit with something like <22km> on a line, then the area round the immigration office. Either that or just from the town nearest your house to your house. They should know the area. They just want to see that you do too. The whole point of the hand drawn map is for you to show them that you do actually know the area and you’re not just pretending to live at that address.
Actually I don’t think they need all that much detail. You could probably draw it with crayons to be honest. As long as it shows that you know the route from your house to the immigration office with things like ‘next left after the big temple’ on it. You’ll be fine.
^ What Tod said. Why would you want to stay in your wife's house after divorcing her? Apart from it being a suicidal move (in my case) surely you'd want to move on?
I think you will need to start your own Thai company in order to get the long term extension of stay that you're looking for. However, you might be able to do that based on Export only, the rules for starting a company like that are slightly different than those for doing business in Thailand (as in buying, selling and making profit in Thailand) but you will still need help setting it up.
