helped me with this - see my question above yours. Very similar situation. I researched her advice and it really seems like we can enter on the visa exemption, and then apply for the non immigrant-O from there without leaving Thailand. I have decided to do this and have now applied for my COE. It has been a big relief! Thank you Ellie!
Oh okay...that is very very helpful. I had no idea that a visa exempt entry could be extended. Thank you. I will look into that. It would be ample time.
Great, okay, thank you. The reason for it is only to give myself a bit more time. The visa exempt only gives me 45 days. I do have a guarantor in Japan. I will call the embassy on Monday and ask them about this. Thank you so much (and yes SETV).
Great. Thank you so much. I did not know that about the Special Entry Tourist Visa so that is extremely helpful. My only concern about the retirement visa is: (b) Original of bank statement in English and a copy of bank accounting passbook of applicant which showing a deposit of the amount equivalent of not less than 800,000 Baht for the last 3 months. The money is in my investment account and there is no passbook. I transferred a million over to K Bank but it won't show it as 3 months at the time of visa application, and I also cannot update my K Bank passbook. I will give the embassy a call on Monday because I think some of this might be more workable than I fear.
Right - thanks Charlotte - that rings a bell for me from the last time I did a ME - I think I have got myself confused because this sounds right - an onward flight within the 6 month window - not the 9 months that you could get if you do extensions. perfect - I think I am fine then as I already have a flight to Penang within the next 3 months to see a friend.
Yes, she messaged me last night (10:30pm on a Friday night!) to say she wouldn't be there Tuesday but Monday was fine. I am so impressed and very grateful to her.
That's really helpful to know Gary - I have been communicating with the amazing consulate at Glasgow. My plans suddenly changed (rushing back to Thailand sooner than I intended) so now my onward flight is not within 60 days, hence my question to this group instead of to Glasgow. I will go to Glasgow to get my visa on Monday.
