We were living in Samui from 2017-2019. I used METVโs so this DTV visa is convincing of making a comeback. My wife worked at Kamalaya during that time (sheโs born in Canada despite looking Thai). Home was mostly in Lipa Noi.
I changed my profile picture so might look different on FB now but weโve had chats before. ๐
I really loved wearing nothing but flips flops and shorts. Enjoy on my behalf! ๐๐ There was one day in November that got down to 23ยฐ in Samui and I couldโve worn long sleeves, but enjoyed that I didnโt have to. Rainy season was my fave time of year in Samui.
I actually first arrived in Samui this very week in 2017. Really enjoyed this time of year as well. Ok, all of them. ๐
๐ฏ It actually fits what the lady and I do perfectly, and how we were able to get out of Toronto and move to Muskoka. Muskoka is nice, but ya, Samui is a much better deal and I fell in love with the consistent weather (as well as many other things). Tired of carrying around a sweater, even during summer time!
At this point weโd move just to save on the laundry bill alone. ๐
As a fellow Canadian, Iโm watching this DTV gossip closely. Seems too good to be true. ๐๐ I hope this visa continues long enough so that itโs available when Iโm ready to head that way again for the long term.
This is sort of our (Canadian wife & I) plan. Canada for 6 months, Samui the other as a base. โLiveโ in both. Still have the Samui connections for everything needed. Sweet deal.
Best way to โliveโ in Thailand is to have two home countries. 6 months home/6 months in Thailand (Tourist Visa). Can even stretch it out up to 9 months in Thailand. Go back and forth during the appropriate times, and immigration will almost surely let you back in.
Many people do this year in, year out, for decades.
