TLDR : Answer Summary
The easiest visa option for a 45-year-old aspiring to move permanently to Thailand is typically the Elite Visa, which grants long-term residency for those who can afford it. Other options are limited for those under 50 years, with discussions suggesting the LTR Visa and educational visas as alternatives. However, a common recommendation is to wait until age 50 to apply for a retirement visa, as this often becomes the most straightforward route. Participants in the discussion emphasize the importance of understanding visa conditions and potential pitfalls.

Ed visa is now only 10 months and you can only have 3 of them in your passport so that'll only work for 2.5yrs.
Tjark *************
Wait till you are fifty and apply for an retirement Visa then. Much cheaper.

Omg

The comment section in Thailand Expat and Thailand Visa advice is more drama than watching lifetime with the box of Kleenexes

At first, I thought it was just kind of despicable and now it actually cracks me up! Lol

Get a trialrun on 60 days touristvisa + 30 day extension, everyday life is far from holiday life, so don’t burn your bridges, at least the first year.

Remember it will be difficult to earn a living if you aren’t an expert of some kind.

A fxxxxxx nightmare I've had for 5 years! Think of elsewhere or pay the big bucks until retirement 50 years old

I think if youre exceptionally rich , they just give you any visa you want for life so they can bleed you slowly 🤣

The right answer is to go to Cambodia get a 1 year business visa at immigration and visit Thailand for a few months, exit Thailand, spend a month in Cambodia, renter Thailand.
Daniel *****
Simply apply and pay for for an elite visa and you're good to go.
Marc *********
Wait five more years to get retirement visa. Travel the world in the meantime.

If you go there and never leave you don’t need a visa 😉

Can make a business and hire yourself. Or Ed visa.

Best way to “live” in Thailand is to have two home countries. 6 months home/6 months in Thailand (Tourist Visa). Can even stretch it out up to 9 months in Thailand. Go back and forth during the appropriate times, and immigration will almost surely let you back in.

Many people do this year in, year out, for decades.
Christopher ********
You can start up a business with true digital park for $2800 gives you a one year visa.

Best way for you is to wait 5 years and then apply for retirement visa.

Just do your time and when you get out you’re over 50 and can apply for a retirement visa. 🤣🤣🤣

There are *many* foreigners living in Thailand, employed, usually at schools as language teachers. If they do well and keep both school staff and students happy, they may be here for years. International schools pay the best. These intl schools also hire math, science, social studies, and IT teachers too. Check out
*************
and look up "Dave's ESL Cafe" website too. Also look at the pic below to get an idea of what a university offers (sorry, appl time has passed for this one). Steady job, monthly income, work permit, no visa runs... it is a good arrangement. They do require a 4 yr degree about 99.9% of the time. Downside: you have to work everyday. Good luck!
Jim ********
First thing is, have you been to Thailand before?And if you have and want to stay forever, I understand and if you have money, what you obviously do. You can get a retirement Visa easy easy.As far as moving, all you need is a suitcase in your clothes.Cause that's all you're gonna take with you.That's verycrazy getting rid of all your stuff and making the big move psychologically is the only thing that might be an article
Ishmael *********
If there is a child involved, send the kid to an international school with ed visa and you yourself a guardian visa, correct me

we live on Samui and in Mexico. Spend more time in SE Asia for now, but that could change, back in Mexico at the moment. Have residency visas in both (and Philippines) so it makes movement easy. And still love summers in Europe. No time for Canada now, just so much more out there

Elite visa definitely the easiest but hard to justify such a cost when you are so close to 50.

If you want to go more cost effective try to arrive on the longest tourist visa you can get then convert to an education visa for Muay Thai then you can which to Thai language education visa.(assuming you are actually interested in attending these classes)

But this alone would only cover about 2-3 years.

Do elite visa. For the money it costs, you’ll save plus some, compared to the high expenses that come from living in the U.S.

you can get utmost 2 years out of an ED visa, and later when you try to enter the country, they refuse. An ED visa is , like somebody else already wrote, a "trap"

ed visa or elite or marriage. Only options.ed visa most likely wont work til ur 50 but the best option. Just do ed visa for a yr and then regroup. U could also maybe find a some college degree to get..
Jae *******
@Donovan ********
Yes that in theory will work. They're getting strict on Ed visas these days, so you'll have to legitimately attend classes, etc.

Unless you have unique talent or profession, employment is impossible, you can be a millionaire if you start with 3 million in your country, the ladies will help you spend it. Thailand makes it very hard for potential migrants. You can buy an elite visa but you will still have to contribute taxes. You will not be able to buy land until you become a Thai citizen, even after qualifying to apply it can take at least 4 years, and you need to speak Thai as well. You can get married, and I wish you well, there are ladies waiting at the airport now, however by the time its ok to get a marriage visa. They may have spent all your money and have headed back to the Airport to wait for their next husband. In Short your chances are slim. Or you can pay an agent and take your chances.
Gavin **********
@Bob *******
or maybe just go there on frequent holidays perhaps 👍

Cheaper is the student visa, 1y for 30-40k.

Student visa cannot work.

Options are limited as you are under 50. Look into whether you qualify for the LTR Visa program or if money isn’t an issue then go for the Elite (Prestige) Visa.

US dollars, have the cash but was wondering about other options, someone suggested a education visa, all I have to do is take a class maybe learn Thai for the first 5 years then apply for the retirement visa. There has to be an easier and cheaper way, that is also legal, I don’t want to get in trouble in Thailand.
Stanley *******
@Donovan ********
Ed visas are traps. Say for example, you do Ed visa for 2 years. Go home and try to come back on tourist visa or visa exemption. They may blacklist you and say clearly you have been living and working in Thailand. They can refuse entry.
Andreas *********
@Stanley ******
correct, that's what is happening to many
Stuart *********
@Donovan ********
An informal education visa (like learning Thai or Muay Thai) would get you at most 2 years if that. A formal education visa at a University will spring you for however long the course is for.
Jeff ******
@Kool ******
see!! 👆👆 the expert has spoken. Elite Visa!
Kim *********
@Jeff *****
and you see all the other options listed by Kool Breez? 😏😏😏
Jeff ******
@Kim ********
yeah the other options aren’t necessarily “easy.” The OP wanted the easiest option, so if you have the funds $, then the Elite/Privilege Visa is the Easiest. I still don’t understand why
@Kool ******
was so triggered by my comment?
Kim *********
@Jeff *****
ok - thanks for the reply - I think that mentioning the elite visa as the only option could discourage the person asking when he finds out the quite expensive costs - and there are in fact many other much cheaper options - but if you have the money it is of course the easiest 😊 I think he was triggered because of the many other options available but of course I don't know
Jeff ******
@Kim ********
you’re correct I should of left out “only option.” In my mind, when people want something to be easy, that usually requires having money, to make things easier. Lesson learned, I should just avoid giving any kind of advice in this group, since I’m far from an expert.
Stuart *********
@Jeff *****
Sorry wasn’t meant to sound as they were the only options, just a couple to look in to. Marriage, working, education are all possibilities but without knowing more info from the OP it was just a suggestion as to what to look for.
Jeff ******
@Stuart ********
exactly. The OP didn’t provide much information, so The Elite/Prestige was the logical suggestion.
Luke *******
@Jeff *****
yes, it is, and all the other bloke was pointing out is that you said it was the ONLY option he had. Which is 100% false. I too tried this forum many years ago to get info and it can be great, but way too many people comment with wrong info (don’t start me in the people that just comment without any intention of help) If he read your comment, looked into the elite visa costs etc and decided it wasn’t for him for whatever reason, he may have given up on his dream? These pages can save people a lot of time/money etc when provided with the correct information.
Jeff ******
@Luke ******
thank you, your reasoning 100% makes sense. And that’s all the other bloke had to say. I guess the reason I said ONLY, was because the OP didn’t provide much information, other than he wanted the EASIEST option. So my natural reaction was to say Elite/Privilege, because if he could afford it, then it definitely is the easiest option.
Luke *******
@Jeff *****
all good mate have a great day

thanks, you too!

no it's not ..lolol. there are a number of other options, like an investment visa, starting a business, or working for someone else, and getting a type B visa, or even getting married to a Thai and getting a type O visa extension based on Thai wife. Don't give false info.
Jeff ******
@Kool ******
did you read his post?? Sounds like he wants the “easiest” option. Stay forever, no border runs etc. I’m aware of the other options…

“I’m 45 and want to move to Thailand, what’s the easiest visa, want to stay forever in Thailand. Is moving there difficult, I don’t want to do border runs every month. Can someone please advise.”
Kool *******
@Jeff *****
you made a false statement saying he only had one option. Live with being wrong.
John ********
Jeff ******
@Kool ******
haha relax! The guy wants the “easiest” option. You mentioned starting a business, investing, marrying a Thai. Do any of those options sound “EASY” to you? 😂
Jim ********
@Jeff *****
Investment or starting a business is easier than marrying a Thai 🤣🤣
Kool *******
@Jeff *****
he wants his options, not what you think is the easiest, if he can even qualify for an Elite visa, that by the way is now called the Privilege Visa. Try to keep up
Peter **********
@Kool ******
He clearly wants the ‘easiest’ option. There is always only ONE which is the easiest. The rest is more complicated and thus doesn’t qualify as ‘the easiest option’. You shouldn’t interfere with posts when you can not read. 😉
Kool *******
@Peter *********
in that case the easiest is the LTR visa.
Jeff ******
@Kool ******
so now you decide to say LTR Visa? Why didn’t you mention that before? The words “only option” just really triggers you for some reason.
Jeff ******
@Kool ******
get ahold of your ego sonny. You are making a fool out of yourself...lolol

so delete your false comment, and this all goes away.
Jeff ******

@Stuart ********

Kool *******
@Jeff *****
he did not list it as the only option, as you tried to do. Live with the fact you are wrong, and delete your false comment. Your ego can handle it...lolol
Jeff ******
@Kool ******
so if I took out “only option” would that satisfy you?? If you look other people mention Elite/Prestige as an option. But for whatever reason you’re picking on me. 🤷‍♂️ Has nothing to do with ego, I just don’t like being bullied by someone in the comment section for no reason….
Kool *******
@Jeff *****
just delete the false comment, and this all goes away. It is that easy
Greg ******
@Kool ******
OP asked for the “EASIEST option”, easiest means one. And there’s only one easiest option. Jeff is correct and you just seem argumentative.
Jeff ******
@Greg *****
thank you for chiming in. As you said, the OP asked for “easiest option” without providing much information. So my quick suggestion to that is Elite/Privilege Visa, especially since he’s under 50.

I really don’t know why
@Kool ******
was so triggered and argumentative about me saying “only option?” 🤷‍♂️
Kool *******
@Greg *****
you don't even know the OPs situation, and you make that assumption.
Jeff ******
@Kool ******
you are correct I don’t know the OP’s situation and neither do you. He didn’t provide much information, other than he wants to stay long term without doing border runs. Mentioning Thai/Prestige Visa was the logical suggestion. But for whatever reason, “only option” really set you off!
Jeff ******
@Kool ******
and I’m definitely not deleting anything because YOU told me to.
Jeff ******
@Kool ******
NOOOOO!! Ok now you’re pissing me off. I’m not deleting anything, because of two words…”only option.” I’m sorry that “only option” triggers you so much, but I’m not deleting my comment.

If you got enough money you can apply for an Elite visa. Also, it would be very appropriate to check the website of the Thai Embassy. Reading is an advantage, believe me. And Google can help as well. If this is all too much, please stay home.👍

if you mean the fee to get an Elite visa, no, it isn't refundable if you don't use the full length of the visa.
