Mine expires in a couple of weeks, so I just left without 'permission' and they were fine. I just explained I was moving over to the DTV visa and it hadn't come through yet. They gave me 60 day tourist visa and said to leave when DTV came through and re enter on that.

I just did this today. I was on the ED, left to go to Vietnam (without ED permission) and applied form the DTV from vietnam. Flew back today and it was fine.

Thank you so much for your help. Just a little nervous as I was on the education visa and now coming back in on a tourist visa may look suspicious haha. I'll show them my proof of payment for the DTV etc and hopefully they'll let me in on a tourist visa (I have a lot of Thai stamps already haha). Wish me luck!
