in the news article it stated you have to show financial proof through your bank account going back the last 3 months. This is for applying for a tourist visa in your home country. My question is, does that apply to travel to Thailand on a visa free entry, or is it only for visa?

The US Embassy no longer gives those verification of income letters.

yes. I had YouTube TV, not to be confused with watching TV on your regular YouTube channel, for about a year here in the Philippines using VPN. After about a year I got the dreaded only available in the US message.
