MJ Spicoli you need to have a non immigrant O or OA visa to open a bank account, along with a resident certificate from your local immigration office. If you are entering on a 90 day O, you need to get your ฿800,000 into your bank account ASAP as it needs to be in your account for 60 days before you can apply for a one year extension. While you are at immigration getting your resisdent certificate, pick up the paperwork and checklist for your one year extension.

Martyn Rollinson it depends on the branch manager pretty much. But usual requirements are your passport with a non immigrant visa, and a Thai mobile number. Most now require a resident certificate from immigration. Some a copy of your lease and a TM30 are also good to have. Go to the bank branch you want to open an account at and ask what they require.

If you didn't get a visa by that method and just entered Thailand from a visa exempt country, it is called a visa exempt permission to stay, currently 60 days, but about to change back to 30 days. While there isn't a written rule as to how many times you can enter this way, immigration is frowning on people trying to live in Thailand on visa exempt entries and extensions. So it depends on your stays over the past and present. If they think you should be getting a visa because you are in essence trying to live here on visa exempt entries, they are denying entries and saying to get the proper visa for your stay. If you don't look like a tourist coming for a holiday they can and will deny you entry.

My wife also had a US Green Card (permanent resident), so that may have helped as well as I knew the immigration officer we usually saw since 2006. They finally didn't after COVID. William that was required for my O visa at Phuket immigration so they didn't need it again. I always thought that the lease, chanote, land lord's ID card and house book was required. Every immigration office seems to have slightly different rules. The money requirement is always the same. I just copied and pasted what they said they require in the above post.

Jonas Coronel you need to go to your local immigration office and apply for a resident certificate, it helps you open a bank account and get a driver's license. Ask the bank you want to open an account with what they require for a foreigner to open a svaings account. Most that I have heard of want a non-immigrant O, a copy of your lease and a resident certificate, maybe a TM30. I'm actually going to go ask at my local Siam Commercial where I had an account what they want. I'm tired of Bangkok Bank where I have two accounts. Next year I'm going to have my landlord go with me to the Amphur's office and apply for a yellow book to get a pink card so I don't have to pay immigration everytime I need a resident certificate. Register my marriage while I'm there as well to make things easier here. This marriage certificte thing having to be regisitered is pretty new. They used to take ours since it was in English. Not anymore! PITA!
