I am a pay to avoid the hassle type too but when I am dealing with immigration in Thailand. Once it is outside Thailand the risks increase a lot. The agents in Thailand have contacts - do those offering services outside Thailand and can they guarantee longevity like those inside Been many a disaster over the years.
I tend to agree with you. They will honour the current visa holders but might withdraw it. It is why I tell people if they are thinking about it go for it now. It will never be easier. They could also use the requirement of ongoing engagement in the soft power activities to cancel some in future years.
I have no idea about ED Visa in particular but in general hard er to get bank accounts. Thailand signed up to CRS ( Common Reporting Standards) meaning more work for foreigners accounts etc.
The issue is Thailand has been clamping down on money laundering and especially accounts used to scammmers. Thailand also signed up to the CRS (Common Reporting Standards) protocol. That means banks have to report back to the country of tax residence of account holders details of their banking for tax reporting purposes. That is quite a bit of extra work. Banks will be looking to see if it is worth it. It is a bit like USA citizens having difficulty with certain financial products jn skme jurisdictions. The extra work involved makes it not worth servicing them due to reporting requirement.
I have moved internationally a few times with companies paying for international moves. Belgium to UK which was easy. UK to Singapore and Singapore back to UK. I could have had my stuff brought from UK to Thailand as I had 2 year visa and WP. It just was not worth the hassle. Unless the things are sentimental etc just buy new. Carry the rest and do it on multiple trips if required.
