only the mortgage is fixed/guaranteed for life. Return on Investments savings varies, and can disappear altogether. You can show them an income from these to obtain a visa, then with withdraw the funds and blow the lot. You could 'borrow' funds to show an income, then pay it back once the visa issued. A property is similar, can be sold or repossessed after visa issued, although a little more difficult and time consuming to abuse this as a source of income ..same as getting a mortgage in UK, only salary and fixed incomes count, but you can make them aware of investments/properties .

in Bangkok ? There are thousands of unsold units. Thousands. Are you literally including the developer as a 'person selling one' ? I think people are talking about reselling a privately owned and previously bought/sold unit.

So next time you get pulled on a minor driving offense, will you not pay and demand to be taken to the police station and processed there, over the course of 4-6 hours and left to make your own way back to your vehicle, or will you pay the officer the 500 he asks for ?

yeah I understand the principle and maybe this close shave has made some think twice about what they do, but my afternoon is worth a lot more than 500bt. I'd give it 15 mins attention then forget about it.

no offence kate, maybe your not so intouch with Thai visas. You cant just chose the length of time and pay and go. There are hoops to jump through, as with most countries/visas, and various reasons to need a visa - marriage, retirement(over 50years), employment or education are the more common. You'll need To prove many things, financial, criminal records, employer/educational establishment, sometimes you'll need a fixed amount of money in a Thai bank or to be able to prove a set income. There is also an Elite visa, which can just be purchased, as long as you fit the criteria, however many are tripping at the final hurdle, due to having had an Education visa previously, which are all considered to be contentious now.

oh please. You just can't compare the two. Thailand is in a different league. Beaches ? They have sand, next to the sea. Nobody ever sent a postcard of a beach in Cambodia. Bars ? Yeah the ones on the 'beaches'. Identical bars, with identical bamboo cane furniture, one after another after another, all with just 1 or 2 local expat drinkers in each, barely keeping the place open. Restaurants, yeah not really restaurants, more, office like places to go to eat, if you don't mind fluorescent tube lighting on full, bland asian food, lousy western food, and lousy service. They have some hotels, the occasional nice boutique property, or converted colonial mansion. Tasteless 5 star hotels in some cities. Trains, boats and buses ? But where are you going ? Oh the beach bars ? No I won't join you, thanks. Those ghastly new "Casino's" and huge Karaoke Clubs, all with that bad taste tinted or mirrored glass, and horrific choice of external paint color. The 😭hideous. Not the kind of place you take a girl on a date . There is very little there, With the exception of Koh Rong, probably ruined by the introduction of 24 hour electricity 8-10 years ago, and a neighbouring beach, already bulldozed and flattened and a horrible office complex that is actually a hotel has been built. Phnom Penh has a handful of good restaurants.
