I have an interesting story. We just went to the US embassy on the 28th to get our financial affidavit before Jan 1. I asked the lady we were dealing with, what our options were for my Mom. You see, my Mom has late stage Alzheimer's and we put her at a fabulous Care Resort in Chiang Mai. While she does not meet the financial requirement with her pension, we are paying for the rest, which exceeds the financial requirement. The affidavit has been perfect for this situation, but now, it is no more.

We cannot claim her as a dependent because she does not live with us. We don't have 800k to put aside in a Thai bank for her, that we are not using for all of our expenses.

I explained the situation to the lady, and she was really interested! She said, "Oh .. we haven't thought of that! I am working with Thai immigration to address all the issues about the changes, and I need to bring that up." She then gave me her email address, and asked me to email the details, which I did.

I got an email back today! I thought people might be interested, so here it is. (screenshot, and a copy and paste so you can read it)

"Dear Deanna,

Thank you for your email. I have shared it with management and we will continue to refer to your concerns as we meet our counterparts at the MFA office. It is important that they are made aware of certain situations and do hope that they can come up with a solution and sound guidance. We will share whatever we receive regarding the transition with the Income Affidavit.

It may not be so soon as one likes but know that we are voicing and sharing everyone’s concerns with relevant government officials.

Thank you for your patience. Have a nice weekend.

Regards"

Hello All. We just saw this on Thai visa!!

We are a married couple, who are US citizens. We have been here on a "retirement, Non Immigrant O" visa, that we have renewed for 3 years now. For our proof of income, we always go to the US embassy to get a financial affidavit of our income. We cannot deposit all of our pension at once in a Thai bank, because we receive it monthly. Also, Social Security will not deposit payments into a Thai bank at all. Social Security also comes in monthly.

When we tried to show US bank statements before, they would not take them. So what form of proof can we use to show how much we make? (we are in Nakhon Si Thammarat)

We do have Thai bank accounts, but do not keep very much money in them, therefore do not have a history of adequate deposits.

TIA
