I wanted to share my timeline and exact document structure because my "workstation" and remote setup are a lot different than the usual digital nomad. I own a marine electrical and refrigeration LLC based in Alaska. My work is highly seasonal and heavy-industry—I spend May through October physically turning wrenches on commercial fishing boats. I spend the winters (the off-season) in Southeast Asia doing the administrative, engineering, and supply chain work to prepare for the next season.
Because I don't have a traditional 9-to-5 remote job with a boss, daily Zoom calls, or a fancy promotional website, I had to build a bulletproof paper trail to prove my off-season logistics.
The Timeline (Manila Embassy)
* Submitted & Paid: Monday, February 16, 2026.
* The Holiday Delay: Tuesday, February 17, 2026, was the Chinese New Year holiday in the Philippines, so the embassy was operating on a delayed schedule.
* Approved: Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
* Total Processing Time: Exactly 5 to 6 actual working days (8 calendar days total). It went straight from "Pending Document Check" to "Pending Approval" to "Approved."
What They Requested & Exactly How I Answered It
1. Proof of "Online Presence" (The Website Problem)
* The Issue: I don't have a website. I operate in a rural Alaskan town of under 3,000 people where everything is word-of-mouth.
* The Solution: I built a PDF dossier. Page 1 was a letter explaining my closed industrial market and why advertising would bring me work I don't have the calendar capacity for. I backed this up with a screenshot of my verified Google Maps business pin, my LinkedIn profile, and a 3-page "portfolio" of photos showing the messy, complex engine room equipment I work on.
2. Proof of Financials & Contracts
* The Issue: They wanted to see recent contracts and money moving.
* The Solution: I spoon-fed the reviewing officer. I created a 17-page PDF with an "Index" cover sheet at the front. For four different Fall 2025 jobs, I provided: The original invoice \rightarrow The matching mobile bank deposit \rightarrow The cleared check image. I explicitly highlighted the matching dollar amounts so the officer didn't have to hunt for the math. I also included an invoice where I left a note to a client confirming that we would finish their vessel's mechanical work in the spring upon my return.
3. Proof of Off-Season Activities & Mode of Communication
* The Issue: They wanted to know how I was communicating and what I was actually doing at my remote workstation.
* The Solution: I split my evidence into an explanation letter and an evidence file.
* The Letter: I explained that because of the 15-hour time difference between Alaska and SEA, my mode of communication is highly asynchronous email, not texts or calls.
* The Supply Chain Proof: I provided February 2026 Amazon receipts for heavy-duty ABB contactors and relays to prove I am actively procuring parts and shipping them to Alaska before the season starts.
* The Engineering Proof: I provided screenshots of a complex load calculation spreadsheet I built for a complete vessel re-wire scheduled for Summer 2026.
* The Professional Development Proof: I showed them that I use my winter downtime for continuing education. I provided my newly completed ABYC Marine Electrical Certification (dated January 2026) to prove I am actively upskilling while in Thailand.
My Biggest Takeaway for the Group:
You do not need to fit the standard mold to get this visa. If you run a physical or seasonal business, you just have to prove the "Administrative Phase." More importantly: Spoon-feed the embassy. Use cover sheets, build indexes, highlight numbers, and explain your specific logistics directly. If you make it impossible for them to get confused, they will approve you.
Been following this group for months and used the tips a couple weeks ago to get approved in London in two days for a workcation DTV. Today I arrived in Thailand, laminated A5 DTV in hand and was processed in minutes with a 6 month stamp. No questions, no dramas, easy as anything. Appreciate you all 👌🏾
I just received a visa rejection email from the Thai Embassy in Dhaka. I applied under the Workcation Visa category on June 22, and today, instead of moving forward from “Pending Document Check,” it went straight to Visa Rejected.
Not sure what I might have missed! But I can ensure you that all documents and the input on e visa portarl was correct and legit.
Here’s what I submitted:
✅ Bank statements and solvency certificate (with more than the required amount, over 6 months) with regular tranjactions.
✅ Employment confirmation letter and an LLC company report from my employer (I work with them via Upwork). Been working for that company for the last 3 years..
✅ Upwork income certificate for the last 12 months.
✅ Freelancer ID issued by the Bangladesh government.
✅ All other regular documents (residency proof, air ticket, hotel booking, etc.)
Do you think I should apply again? If yes, when would be the right time?
Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Is anyone in Hanoi at the moment? I’m here solo and would love to meet up for a drink or even a bit of a party this weekend if you’re around!
I just got approved for the workcation!
I applied last Saturday and got the green light today (Friday). The status changed to ‘Pending approval’ on Tuesday, so it all went through pretty quickly.
For the application, I submitted proof of my self-employment from the UK, six months of bank statements and invoices, a letter explaining what I do, why I want to stay in Thailand, and that I won’t be working with any Thai clients. I also included a letter from my main client confirming what I do, that I’ll continue working with him, and that remote work is totally fine.
I had 500k baht in my main account for the past three months, and I also added proof that I’m currently in Vietnam, along with some examples from my work portfolio.
The biggest struggle was making sure all the PDFs were small enough - under 3MB. I actually used ChatGPT to help me sort everything out and even create the PDFs, but I still had to adjust and compress everything properly in Adobe Acrobat. If you're adding screenshots or scans, make sure to keep them as small as possible!
The only thing I was unsure about was the ‘Place of issue’ field — my Polish passport doesn’t have that, just an ‘authority’ field, and it was issued in Jakarta. I just copied exactly what was written there and it worked fine.
Really happy it’s all sorted! Thanks for all your posts here, they were super helpful :)
Applied Feb 18th. Requested additional documents March 3rd, Approved March 5th.
I applied online through the evisa site on the 18th through Workcation catagory.
I am self employed but did not have the funds required for the visa application so I had my dad sponsor me with his savings account.
Was initially worried about that being under workcation catagory but after I applied they just needed an employement verification letter signed (by myself) and they approved it.
I submitted:
Letter of Intent, Employment Contract, Proof of Work (Link to my site and invoices), Sponsorship Letter, Bank Statements (I used 6 months), Copy of My Dads Passport for ID verification, and Employment Verification Letter. I had already purhcased my flight and made a hotel reservation for my travels (March 31st is my flight out)
I wanted to say thank you to this group as I combed over tons of posts before submitting my application. I have never been anywhere outside of the US and Mexico (right across the border) but this has been a dream for going on 10 years now so I am so hyped to make it happen.
I used ChatGPT throughout my process to help me draft letters and follow the requirements with the DTV. I had ChatGPT make editable templates of all the letters I submitted if that would be helpful I put them here in a shareable folder (just make your own copy of them as needed).
I am considering the DTV for Workcation - I am not a freelancer but have several virtual jobs that I can provide documentation for income and employment. How do I have my employment contract or employment certificate authenticated by a US embassy for the DTV application?
Pretty straight forward, applied for workcation as a Director of company(registered with investment commission)
Just ask me what I'll be doing which my answer was managing my company from here and probably travel around thailand. Paid the fees and got back in two days.
- company annual tax return (notarized)
- company letter detailing my work addressed to Ambassador with stamp and seal
- bank statement 4 months (loads of transaction)
- Company Registration
- Company List of Shareholders
- passport copies
If you are a director/BOD of registered company, you don't need that much of documents apart from having a strong bank statement. Good luck 🙌
