Hello everyone, I’m a British in Thailand waiting to go back to China to work. Due to the coronavirus the Chinese borders are close for foreigners until further notice. (When will that be I don’t know). Now I’m interested in working in Thailand and wait for next year when things should get better.

I came into Thailand on a 30 days visa on arrival and extended for another 30days at the local immigration office. Now I’m on the free emergency visa that The Thai government have given to foreigners until the 31st July 2020.

I understand that in Thailand when you get a student or work visa you would have to get it from the Thai Embassy or consulate outside the kingdom.

Now in Thailand, are there any other ways of getting a work visa from a tourist or an

emergency visa in Thailand? especially, now with the coronavirus time.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A British expat in Thailand is looking to transition from a tourist visa and current emergency visa to a work visa while waiting to return to China due to COVID-19. He seeks information on options available for obtaining a work visa without leaving Thailand, especially during ongoing restrictions.

And I think at this time

understands that they can't do anything once they go on the amnesty other than wait for the borders, nearby countries and thai consulates in those countries to open back up AND to watch for news of what amnesty holders do at that time

I was told you can do a student visa in Thailand but only get 9 months. However you wouldn’t be able to work

The Student visa, officially named Non Immigrant ED visa gives you 90 days of stay, before this stay ends you apply for Extension of Stay and depending on what courses you follow it could be 60 or 90 days or even 1 year at the time.

a 9 months visa does not exist

sadly what you're not going on now is the fact that once you go on amnesty you can't get ANY in country Non-Immigrant Type visa issued (Non-O, Non-B, Non-ED).

AND

You are talking about studying the thai language where you get 8-9 months out of one ED visa to study basic/intermediate thai courses and then GO get a new ED visa to study the advanced course.

I would do the same, but on this page and to advice others it is more easy to use the correct terminology as we can not see the drink in the glasses,

Translate: I call stamps drinks and passport glasses, but I know others have different names for their passports.
