Hi all, I’m seeing no posts about the digital nomad visa and I’m wondering if there is some significant reason for this? Does it still exist?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion highlights that Thailand does not have a dedicated digital nomad visa. Instead, there is a Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa, which has four categories including one for remote workers of foreign companies. However, the requirements for the LTR visa are often deemed challenging for many digital nomads who are independent contractors. Comparisons are made to Indonesia, which does offer a digital nomad visa, prompting some to consider relocating there due to Thailand's visa complexities.

it’s 1 year reporting requirement, so similar to 90 day reporting. So you need to fill in the reporting form. In my case I fly out of country every 1-2 months so it keeps resetting. meaning probably no reporting until year 5.

LTR costs 50,000 baht for 10 years.

there is no annual requirement to check-in. Unless you're asking about the "90-day report" which is extended to the 1 year report for LTR holders. For that you generally just need your passport at your local immigration office.

Hello Jo! I also got a LTR visa last December. By any chance do you know which documents we must bring on each anniversary date of the visa ?

did it myself. An agent would not be that helpful because the documents and information you must obtain yourself.

i paid 50,000 for ten years that’s very cheap. no 90 day reporting. you can buy a Thai Elite visa for 5 years for 600,000 haha

It never existed yet, there’s been talk but there no dedicated nomad visa launched. Indonesia has it though. Honestly due to the whole visa thing I’m considering Indonesia instead as a base, especially now with Elite getting ore expensive.

Edit: Forgot to mention LTR, but they are difficult to get.

Paul Amestoy look at you go. Capt of the British Wayne Kerr team. Cheers to that. You can afford to live in Thailand???? 😂🤣🤣 Your parents must be so proud! Cross Britain off your list too, too much arrogance and not enough good dentists.

@Todd ********
you seem to be mistaken. I can afford to live here and I don't need advice on how many countries there are in this world and imagine the arrogance of a man who don't see Thai every day scraping a living and thinks everything is rosy in the world 🤣🤣 I'll tell you one thing though you can cross Canada off the list I worked in the states and OMG Canadians are just weird and arrogant
Todd *********
@Paul ********
you don’t have to like everyone. And it’s a safe bet that not everyone will enjoy your moaning either. You have 195 other countries to embrace if you have become disenchanted with Thailand. More than a bit arrogant if you to expect them to pander to you… don’t suppose that crossed your mind. Imagine the arrogance of a pretentious fella thinking Thai people rely on expats to ‘scrape by’.
Paul *********
@Todd ********
you are the Thai government? How do you know they are not valued? I really don't like arrogant people it's not a nice trait
Todd *********
Paul Amestoy ok. I will mention it. And please tell the expats you know they are not nearly as valued as they love to think they are.

But I understand Cambodia is looking. And very cheap right now. And Botswana also is very welcoming for expats
Paul *********
@Todd ********
tell that to the Thai who rely on ex pat's to scrape a wage during low season

@Paul ********
that’s ideal. Becoming more selective. Nothing wrong with that

many people are considering other countries now, especially as they are clamping down on frequent visitors. I myself and many others have been told by immigration officials not to come back often

There's no such thing as a digital nomad visa.

There's an LTR which has 4 categories, and one of them is for remote worker of a foreign company. It's the closest thing to a digital nomad visa but the requirements are beyond the reach of most true digital nomads that are independent contractors (hence they are not an employee of a foreign company)

as ever, the best advice. Appreciated

I'm not quite sure what your actual classification is as a consultant, but you can look into the LTR to see if you qualify.

If you do, it's one of the best visas around right now and really the only visa in existence that says it's okay to work remotely in Thailand.

Otherwise over 50 will work just fine for you. No one needs to know you're working in Thailand. Thousands of people work remotely and while technically illegal, the laws that govern work in Thailand haven't been updated in decades and that makes remote work more of a grey area. They don't ask and you don't tell.

thanks as ever Brandon, for your public service. I am a consultant working for a European company. I can go the over 50 route but I’m not at all retired, is there any other route or is it best for me to simulate through someone who can facilitate? My language is used purposefully. Cheers
