Just got an email from Eva air offering to let me bid on an upgrade to first class. I thought, well heck, let's offer a couple bucks and maybe I get lucky... I go to the page and you adjust a slider bar to set the amount you want to bid and it has a little peer pressure guide that tells you "how strong" your bid is... The LOWEST offer you could set... Was as much as the first class ticket would cost to just buy.

As a heads up, the new direct flight from Vancouver to Bangkok is listed as 15 hours and 50 minutes flying time. Personally, I would only fly this on an upgrade to Premium Economy.
