your family will need to gain permission from the embassy anyway,until they go through the process with them and gain permission to enter only you would be allowed in.

Get an education visa(if you can)to carry you through until you turn 50,then convert to a retirement, getting an elite makes no sense.

Also learning a little Thai is very useful
