Always, since I first dame to Thailand I carry a disguise with me on the plane. Before landing I head to the bathroom, put on a fresh shirt and long pants and look presentable. Thais judge you by your appearance. Same goes for immigration and the banks, you get better results if you dress appropriately. I have never been asked to show money, hotel booking or return ticket in 25 years and I have entered on every possible visa type.
