Yeah, that’s frustrating. They want you to move away from cash but do everything to freeze and block your accounts.

Anonymous participant 905 Be careful. Both of these are risky in the long term, especially if they discover that you’re a resident in Thailand. I had both frozen for this very reason. And you can’t open accounts while resident in Thailand.

The DTV is a new visa. Thai bank accounts are available for most other non-immigrants, including DTVs until banks decide to change it recently. So this was never an issue for most foreigners until now.

You may need to ask these people. TrueMoney has existed for a very long time. The need for QR payments by foreigners is quite new since the DTV is new, and bank accounts were still relatively accessible until a few months ago. Things change quickly here.

Yes, it’s annoying. But TrueMoney hasn’t been designed for foreigners.

The ask:thailand community, consisting of multiple Q/A groups with over 100,000 members, powers this platform. It is not an official government resource. Our members actively contribute to this resource, and while we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee its complete reliability. Assistance to travelers is provided as a community service.
