Fly in visa exempt 60 days, any time after the first week go to immigration and apply for 30 days extension 1900 baht but will need 3 x passport photos and may need tm30 ( location paper work that is required by Thai law that accommodation provides do on your behalf on check in). This rule is generally not enforced.

opening a Thai bank account can be a bit of chicken and the egg, if in the kingdom just save yourself the hassle and use a visa agent to open a account and takes about one hour. Price depends on what paperwork you have.
