@Pete ******
I’m over 50 and married to a Thai, and have just come and gone on the stamp on arrival as I am Australian, and that suits me well atm, as I work 2 months on then 2 months off. But I will certainly look at one early next year.👍

you will find out soon enough. I know how incompetent they are, but I also know how greedy they are.

Eventually the immigration computers will be automatically linked to all Thai banks, and to Thai taxation computers and it will automatically flag at 180-3 days in Thailand and how much $ you have bought into Thailand that calendar year, then alert Thai taxation computers system. Then it will also automatically contact you via phone call, messages, emails and snail mail, and face to face at your stated thailand residence and give you what they claim to be your thailand taxation debt. You will also be provided with it when you attempt to leave Thailand and asked how you will be paying that outstanding amount BEFORE you leave Thailand. It hasn’t all come in yet, BUT it will….$$$$

What possible benefits and negatives are there to NOT being an Australian tax resident?

great answer, and I'm sure they will focus more on the ones, (like myself) that spend almost 6 months in Thailand, due to working internationally, with the new interpretation of the Thai tax laws.

yes mate, it is a serious response, given how ridiculous the original question was. He did NOT mention what passports (his Thai gf may have another passport), they have, where they are travelling from, how long they intend to stay, or weather he has spent 5 minutes online to check at the govt immigration site.

This can't be a serious question....

The problem is in Thailand they change the rules, but then change them another 2-3 times in the first few weeks of implementing them, and then get angry with travellers, for getting it wrong.
