Fortunately it doesn’t affect me directly because I have a non -o and am about to do extension #4. But I get frustrated at those who deliberately test the system and plead ignorance or complain about the immigration laws here. Many foreigners apparently feel as though they should be entitled to stay in Thailand unconditionally.
There are things to complain about Thailand, but this not one of them. It is those who abuse the system by trying to outsmart it that causes problems for everyone else.
As I understand it, there is no published rule regarding the number of visa exempt entries allowed through airports, however does not imply that the airport entries are unlimited. Most legitimate sources of information will warn us that interpretation is at discretion of the immigration officer. They are charged with preventing “immigration without proper documentation and flagrant abuse of the system. Officers at land borders may deny entry to someone that hasn’t done their two allotted land entries based upon air entries and other factors.
Is it true that one may be eligible for a 60 day family extension with an original visa exempt entry + 30 day tourism extension? I was under the assumption that one needs a Non-O 90 day visa to qualify for the 60 day family extension and that visa exempt entry or tourist visas do not qualify. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Someone better qualified than me will likely respond. You will apply for an extension of stay based upon retirement, not a 12 month visa. As for your pension, you will need to establish a 12 month history of pension deposits into your Thailand bank account before you are able to apply these towards your financial requirements needed for your extension. So you will need the 800k TBht in your account for the first year. But again, someone better qualified than myself will most likely respond.
