I applied for and received a non o visa by going to Laos and it was quite painless. I agree with the previous comments regarding you applying for the wrong visa, I didn’t need the add on requirements that you described.

It’s a horrible catch 22 situation on tourist visa exempt, no visa, no bank account. No bank account, no non o visa. I wish that I had applied for my visa before leaving Australia, in the end I went to Laos to make it happen.

Thai drivers are not the greatest, if you are driving in high volume traffic areas, something more disposable might the right way to go.

I have seen how some Thai people treat their cars and there is always flood danger, I opted to buy brand new for the reasons stated, this way I know exactly what I’m getting.

I had a substantial amount in my Australian bank account, I just needed to show a copy of my bank statement

I had a print out of my Australian bank account statement showing funds from the sale of my house. all that was required was a photo of this to present to immigration for my application.

no. We drove across country to Nong Khai. The agent picked us up from our respective accommodation on both sides of the border whilst arranging the visa on my behalf. She was brilliant and just took control of everything.
