I don't think there's been anything Official from the Thai government yet, but some on Facebook seem to think it will be limited to government approved cooking schools only. Common sense to me, says that if that's the case, it's not going to be short courses of only 2 weeks or so and more expensive than non-government approved courses. It might be that Extensions in the visa will require signing up for further courses, suiting foreigners who want to start up or further their career in cooking, rather than someone just looking to improve their home cooking skills. Just my common sense thoughts.
it does, but is it as cheap as it seems ($10k Baht officially, but Embassies are charging between 13k & 18k)? There's been varying opinions as to whether that will be a one-off fee or per entry or per 6 months. Has there been (other than the ones that have paid for the first Visa) any "Official" confirmation? I haven't seen anything yet. Will the 500k financial proof only be for the initial Visa application, or required for Extensions also?
that may be true, but are these people going to come back every 6 months or whatever for operations over a 5 year period? It can't be as simple as come on DTV for one operation and be allowed multiple entries over 5 years just for one operation. Common sense, to me, says it can't be that simple. While it may seem that way right now, nobody knows what Immigration input will be on DTV's and they likely will have plenty.
there's been plenty of mention over the past year or so on Thai Immigration clamping down a bit on those using Visa Exempt entries to live much of the year in Thailand. While that's gone from 30 days to 60 days now, giving tourists longer holiday stays, I think this, along with the new DTV's, Thailand might be looking to catch more foreigners in their 'Tax net'
and you should know that Thailand is currently considering taxing Worldwide income. It may or may not happen, but other countries do it,so Thailand might follow suit.
so you think you're funny... yeah right! It's not been a full month yet since the DTV 'went live'. How many of those that have had their DTV's approved and entered Thailand on them up until now? I've seen plenty of mentions of approvals, but yet to see any mentions of arriving on them. If there are any, how many of those have reported about what their dealings with Immigration were like, what Immigration have told them about the 'finer details' are? The YouTube video by RW4U that
mentioned, the MFA representative, when asked about how much DTV Extensions would cost, said "I believe 1900 Baht".. He wasn't sure in reality. As Tim Newton, on his YouTube channel "TNT" said, the Immigration Office always have a big say on the details of Visas and there's been nothing from them yet. Some will quote as facts, blogs, videos Newspaper articles etc, but this early, there's very few details available officially, only reports of DTV approvals and even those, are from applicants such as Digital Nomads, Fereelancers etc., there's no confirmation about'soft power' DTV's.
You've got plenty of advice on what you should do about your Passport/Stamps and hopefully you'll get a good dose of marriage advice... Don't blame your wife for what is your fault 🙊 I hope she gets to read this post! Get ahead of your wife finding out about this post and apologise to her if you haven't already done so 🙄
I'm stand corrected if anyone has very up to date information, but everything that anyone knows about the DTV so far, has come from the Thailand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Embassies/Consulates. Immigration will probably have a lot of say on the details of this Visa as the weeks and months go by. There's still a lot of unkowns right now.
my thoughts exactly about the time already spent in Thailand this year. Definitely get a Tourist Visa before returning, otherwise wait until late in the year or until 2025.
