thanks. I'll be retiring in Chiang Mai, and am visiting in October. Assist Thai Visa there has been reccomended and appears to be thoroughly reviewed with a lot of clients. I'll give them a visit while I'm there. Still going to use my own money. It's a bit out of my savings that won't hurt sitting there.

that's one of those things that sound dodgey. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that the kind of thing that could get someone hung up?

so what is the requirement using an agent? Nothing mentioned here.

I thought the requirement was 800,000 in a Thai bank? At least according to the Thai immigration website. I really don't want to risk getting around anything that's required.

thanks. I am at least going to need help with getting a bank in order to deposit the 800,000 though. At least from what I understand an agency is good for that. Also, if I just use them to gather documents and ensure everything is filled out correctly then do the leg work myself I'm thinking even that much help would be worth the money. But yes, I'm not trying to cut corners. I will get back, but it won't be until next year when I actually retire. Still in the information collecting phase.

saw that, and that's what got me curious. I wonder how legit he started. Did he have the money deposited by the agency without doing it himself? Did he have them cut corners? Was the agency licensed? How did he get away with the 90 day checkins without getting flagged? Did the agency pull a stunt or did the immigration office screw up? I have read both sides on agencies, and really want to sort it out. It appears that those who do it through legit agencies and don't try and cut corners are fine.

being new, it would be worth the money just to have someone at least walk me through it and prepare documents as well as assisting in getting the bank account to deposit the money in. Headache avoidance is the goal here.

Thanks. Right now, I know Schwab doesn't charge for domestic transfers. Do they charge for international transfers? And do Thai banks charge only between banks, or do they charge with any transfer? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm pretty ignorant on all this.
