My bad Bernie.. caught only a part of the conversation! Yes, having a Thai DL might help with discounts to places. The test itself is so easy to do too!

Why would they allow you to pay Thai prices on an International Driving Permit? That doesn't make any sense. On a Thai DL fair enough, but international?

I had two dogs in Thailand. A pug and a shitzu poodle mix. The shitzu was going to be abandoned so we took him on. Costs at the vets in Thailand made it easy to do so. We then moved back to the UK with our pets and my gosh what a shock to the system. Just a groom costs £35 . Consultation only with a vet £65-70! 2 weeks of antibiotics £100! It's crazy. They prey on people's emotional connection to the pet

I can well imagine! In the UK owning a pet is such a costly affair. Vets charge through the nose for everything even when it comes to having to make the decision of putting your pet down, they want hundreds of pounds to do that. It's such a sorry state of affairs really.

if you truly believe that other countries airports/ pet transporters arent equally interested in the money side of things then it would seem you are naive too. Absolutely everything nowadays is about money making - it's just that some countries are more explicit about it than others. :(

I guess my comment is subjective but to me a deposir of £50,000 or monthly income of £100,000 are substantial sums, esoexially compared to Standard Banks £5,000 requirement.

The likes of Natwest, HSBC, Lloyds etc require large sums to open maintain an offshore account. However Standard Bank offers an offshore account with a minimum of deposit of £5,000 - the lowest requirement i have seen so far.

Of course, you can use Government hospitals as long as you pay. Not everyone can get private health cover! :)
