Unless you want to nitpick and mean Immigration office, which is a sub department of the Royal Thai Police.

An extension is an extension.

Does not matter if it is:

- Visa exempt

- Tourist visa

- Retirement visa (Non O based on retirement)

- Marriage visa (Non O based on marriage)

- Business visa (Non B based on business purposes)

- and so on

And, if you are in doubt: then go to immigration right now and extend it right now. There is no time limit for visa extensions.

Thai do not like "exceptions" the idea that a DTV has an exception for extensions, is just ridiculous.

DTV is not a tourist visa, it is a DTV. And on a tourist visa you easy get a bank account.

You get a bank account on visa exempt.

Opening a bank account is a business transaction. Perhaps go into the bank with proper clothing, proper shoes a smile and say "Sawasdee Khrap" as greeting?
