What is the easiest way for expats to open a bank account in Thailand?

If you are on a tourist visa your only real hope is an agent. If you have any other visa 90 days or longer you should be able to get a Bangkok Bank account providing you have your passport with visa and residence form from immigration.

The NY consulate has been great. My last METV I received in less than 24 hours on a weekend. Never longer than 2-3 days ever even when we had to submit everything to them.
