If you leave Thailand, CM Immigration considers you to have vacated your TM30 address of record, and requires the reaffirmation of your address via a new filing of the TM28. I know this to be a fact. It cost me money to find out.

To whom (that live in Chiang Mai) itmay concern: when you re-enter the country and get stamped in at one of the Bangkok gateways, you're only halfway home. Within 24 hours, you have to hoof it out to Promenada with passport in hand and report back in with your completed TM-28 form. The office is upstairs near Tian.
