Only those silly enough to get a Tax ID number! I can't speak for other countries but the Australian DTA protects Australian Tax Residents from paying tax in Thailand on money already taxed.

There won't be a problem. The MFA are pushing this visa hard, they won't make life difficult for you!

Australian embassy and consulate is not asking for it. It's not on the original criteria. Perhaps a few rogue embassies are doing this. I know three people already have made the switch

Wrong. All you show is 500k equivalent for six months in bank or Superannuation account in your name
