Can a retired expat under 50 apply for the DTV in Thailand with pension income?

Has anyone applied to the DTV while under the age of 50 on a pension income? I'm retired and no longer work but my retirement income will last the rest of my life. Would it be an issue to the immigration authorities?

It seems that if I craft a good cover letter for my application with detailed explanations, then its suitable for approval, but I wanted to hear from anyone whose gone through it.

edit: Thank you for the responses, everyone.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses whether retirees under 50 can apply for the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand based on pension income. Responses indicate that the DTV is primarily intended for remote workers and there are alternative routes, such as soft power activities and verified courses, that may facilitate approval. While income alone may not qualify applicants, demonstrating financial stability, such as having substantial savings, is important. Overall, a clear cover letter and leveraging soft power options appear to be potential strategies for approval.

Your income is irrelevant. You need equivalent of 500k baht in a bank somewhere which will be very easy for any retiree. As a retiree you can easily apply for the soft power option in a course of your choosing. Seems like the easiest 5 year β€˜residency’ visa ever offered
HillView ******
Dtv is not for retired
Jim ********
@HillView *****
But many retirees are now switching to it, because of the onerous criteria of retirement visas. I know three retirees already have obtained DTVs
Kevin ********
Unlikely to succeed on income. Got the other route if you can and do a verified course that gives you the visa, yes it costs money but much easier for you.
John **********
Your only hope of getting the DTV is using one of the soft power options, so sign up for one of those with an approved institution and apply using that. Alternatively look into the Thai Privilege visa

@John *********
Exactly. So easy. Not sure why everyone on here wants to submit an edge-case when they made it SO SIMPLE. Just follow the simple steps!

As far as I understand, if you go by the remote worker route, you do need to working, either as IC or freelancer or a regular employee on a company allowing 100% remote work. There's also a route to obtain it trhu soft power activities, such as muay thai courses, etc.

And there is, of course, another totally different visa that is the retirement visa.

@ElΓas *******
A retirement visa is not applicable here because the OP is under 50-years old. People love to post what they know (possibly to show off), not the answer the poster is seeking.
ElΓas ********
@Deepak ******
I did answer what he asked for: The DTV is not for him if he is retired. It requires to show employment OR enrollment in a muay thai / cooking / etc. course πŸ™„
Todd *********
@ElΓas *******
which makes it ideal for retirees. Take a class and get DTV
Daniel *******
The visa is not about having enough money to survive. It is for remote workers, or for going to school etc. If you are 50+, there is retirement visa for that purpose.
Jim ********
@Daniel ******
A retiree who can qualify as a remote worker can most certainly switch visas
Daniel *******
@Jim *******
Yes, but pension does not qualify
Jim ********
@Daniel ******
A retiree can qualify as a remote worker. Income is irrelevant. The criteria is 500k baht in savings.
Daniel *******
@Jim *******
I'm not so sure about it, the DTV visa does not mention pension at all. It says remote workers, medical travelers, or students of whatever in Thailand
Jim ********
@Daniel ******
You're obviously not reading what I'm saying lol. I repeat "a retiree can qualify as a remote worker" - there is no upper age limit
Daniel *******
@Jim *******
I'm obviously reading the visa description and I go by it before I go by what random guy on internet says, I hope you understand that.
Andy ************
@Daniel ******
There's absolutely no restriction on a retiree becoming a remote worker. I know four people personally who have already made the switch. This visa is flying off the shelf for retirees. The criteria to qualify is a cake-walk. This is the new "retirement visa" for many people.
Daniel *******
@Andy ***********
I am not saying retiree can't work remotely. I am saying that pension itself is not remote work. Of course they can have a company or whatever and provide information that way.

But if you go there and fill in I AM RETIREE, here is my money, that is not for DTV.
Andy ************
@Daniel ******
You don't seem to be reading the posts. Getting a pension is totally irrelevant to the DTV, as proof of income is not required. It's simply a case of working remotely and showing the equivalent of 500k baht in an overseas bank account. Anyone with half an ounce of intelligence can do that!
Daniel *******
@Andy ***********
And yet, you are missing even half that ounce of intelligence.

One more time for you.

The OP asked: Can I get DTV when I am retiree, getting my pension, but no longer work?

I've said, probably not, as the VISA is for work, school, or medical treatments, aka, if you start working or fulfill any of the requirements, you can get the VISA. You can't get it based on pension income only.
Andy ************
@Daniel ******
But it's the simplest task in the world to become a "remote worker" so it will suit the OP perfectly! Everyone's doing it. This visa is the new SuperVisa. Within a year or two, everyone except those requiring a work permit will be on this visa.
Daniel *******
@Andy ***********
The OP has asked if the regular income in a form of pension qualifies him to get DTV even if he does not work. I have answered that question and added that it has to be school, remote work etc. So ya all can stop bashing me alright :D
Andy ************
@Daniel ******
Exactly! And that person can most certainly be a retiree!
Daniel *******
@Andy ***********
Yes, and that is what I've said in my comment lol...jesus, go see a doctor to check if all the wheels up there are still turning :D
Andy ************
@Daniel ******
And exactly what I said! Funny that huh?
Daniel *******
@Andy ***********
Your aren't the smartest tool, aren't you? πŸ˜ƒThanks for the laughs, but please, stop digging the hole deeper than it already is lol. Honestly, are you suffering from dementia?
Andy ************
@Daniel ******
You made some incorrect statements and now you're trying to deflect. Fact remains pensioners can get the DTV very easily.
Daniel *******
@Andy ***********
your IQ is getting lower and lower old man
Andy ************
@Daniel ******
Still higher than yours pedo
Daniel *******
@Andy ***********
wow, that is what you come up with? At your age, living in Thailand, calling a young guy a pedo? πŸ˜ƒ being a pedo yourself hahaha, that's some high IQ game :D
Jim ********
@Daniel ******
You have little idea of how many retirees are taking up the DTV
Daniel *******
@Jim *******
Oh, the guy who started the whole nonsense. But maybe you will have more IQ than the other loser.

I have NOT SAID THAT RETIREE CAN'T GET DTV. The OP was literally asking, whether GETTING PENSION and NOT WORKING is qualifying for DTV.

And I replied, that the pension itself and income from it DOES NOT QUALIFY, he has to have a remote job, go to school, or have a medical treatment. At NO POINT I have said that retiree can't get the visa, kapish? Go back and read again the OP's post and my comment. Ya all have started making up some lies lol

Again the OP has literally asked whether the pension income is considered as DTV qualification.
Jim ********
@Daniel ******
You don't understand. You only need register a business name, and write yourself a contract of employment. You don't need to work remotely. It's all a big farce. You're just not getting how this visa works are you?
Daniel *******
@Jim *******
I KNOW!!!! But he has asked whether the pension itself is enough, do you get it? He wanted to go there, show pension without anything and ask for the DTV, which would not work.....that is why I've said there must be remote contract, schoool ,or medical....are you sharing mother with Andy or how only you two in the whole thread are so IQ limited? Everyone else in the thread said the same as I did, everyone understood what the OP was asking, only you two did not.
Jim ********
@Daniel ******
I merely pointed out that a "pensioner" can easily get a DTV.
Daniel *******
@Jim *******
It does not matter if he is pensioner, everyone who gets the right paper work can qualify, nowhere in the world being pensioner disqualifies a person.

But he can't get it based on pension income, which was his question, to which I replied, that he has to do bit more than that, showing only paper with pension income won't work, it has to be based on some work contract, school, or medical....omg, you two really found each other here lol
Jim ********
@Daniel ******
You are obviously a sensitive little snowflake going into emotional meltdown. You have so much to learn about visas in Thailand. Go to school?? Jesus Christ!!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. I'm telling the OP the easiest way to get the DTV, and you're telling him he'll have to go to school!!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Daniel *******
@Jim *******
No, he has asked if he can go to the embassy, just show the fact he is retired with pension income and if that grants DTV. I've said no, that does not grant DTV, you have to have a work contract, do school, or medical.

Thanks for playing and of course, for the insult when you started to lose it.

Have a good one Jimmy
Jim ********
@Daniel ******
You too Danny boy, maybe one day you'll learn about visas in Thailand
Daniel *******
@Jim *******
I hope one day you learn to read hahahah
Andy ************
@Daniel ******
I live all over the world actually. You're the poor broke sucker who can only survive in Thailand πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Daniel *******
@Andy ***********
wonderful, and now you even know everything about my life πŸ˜ƒ Please, amuse me with more nonsense....I live in Singapore my dear friend, I got my DTV only because I have a house on Phuket and I'd like to come there from time to time when I'm not renting it hahahahaha....and I'm under 40yrs old, retired already for 7 yrs you dummy :DD This was the best fun I've had here in a long time :D
Andy ************
@Daniel ******
You know very little about Thailand visas, and Thailand in general. You cannot even own a house in Phuket. You're just another broke "digital creator"
Daniel *******
@Andy ***********
That was the best one so farπŸ˜‚ Hope the dinner was nice tho πŸ˜‚
Andy ************
@Daniel ******
πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Jim ********
@Daniel ******
Me too. I follow the requirements for a remote worker. And there's already plenty of retirees taking up this visa. It's an absolute beauty!!
