that's just the thing, I don't understand the "double void" stamp thing. One void was on it when I picked it up (to signal the rejection I assume), the other void was stamped in when I arrived in Chiang Mai.

So essentially I came in on a visa exempt.

I've had a couple of back to back visas 3 years ago and one ED Visa 1.5 years ago. This was to be my second year ED for Thai language.

yes. Only because originally it wasn't supposed to be a tourist visa I was applying for, but an ED one. The papers weren't ready in time.

My visa expired last Sunday. I flew out Monday. The immigration officer noticed my overstay, went and spoke to another colleague, came back and let me through without a fine.

I think it all depends on who you get.
