I've only extended my tourist visas and visa exemptions (by air) and each time got the 30 day extension for 1900฿, but I didn't know they limit the 30 day extension for a land crossing to one time per year
If someone does their 2nd land border, they can't extend that 2nd visa exemption for 30 days if they already extended their 1st land border? How long has it been like this?
It's not common for people to come to Thailand and be knowledgeable with the METV. Most people think they already have a tourist visa on arrival when they arrive to Thailand.
If someone plans to to stay in Thailand for 9 months then the Multi Entry is more convenient. But as OP only wants to stay for 6 months, two single entry visas would work. and also gives a chance to spend 2 days to see another country.
Lots of people confuse the METV thinking it allows them to stay put in Thailand for 6 months without leaving, but both Visas require you to leave after 90 days (of course after you pay for the extension at immigration), so the only difference someone will save is the extra 2 days spent applying for a new Visa at the embassy.
You don't need the Multi Entry Tourist Visa. Just get the Single Entry. You still get 90 days total. If you want to stay in Thailand for 6 months, then the only difference is after the first 90 days, instead of just leaving/re-entering the same day on the same visa, you just take 2 days of your time to go to the Thai consulate in Cambodia or Laos and apply for another Single Entry Tourist Visa and come back for the remainder of your planned trip.
You are right, how can taking advantage of something that is meant to be used be wrong? If it was wrong, there would be a rule implemented such as the 2 land crossing exemptions per calendar year. As long as you are traveling every 90 days to another country, it's your choice if you want to apply for a new tourist visa, and come back and put your hard earned money into the Thai economy for another 90 days. That's fair game in the immigration officers eyes, otherwise they wouldn't allow it. I always felt their main concern is that they want to make sure you aren't illegally working in Thailand, not put a number on how many times you are allowed to fly to Thailand with a tourist visa.
Tod Daniels Yes i know that but shouldn't they already have a job lined up where they can get a work permit so they can apply for the Non B visa? If I didn't have a job and wanted to work in Thailand but I dont have a work permit, but get the Non B Visa in Hong Kong, I would still need to find a job that would provide me the work permit. But if I was on a Tourist visa, and found a job, they would provide the work permit and then the Non B visa would automatically come after that.
What benefits would someone have by obtainin a Non B Visa in Hong Kong without a work permit instead of a Tourist Visa? Because if your plan was to work in Thailand, then getting the work permit should be priority over the Visa, but then if you don't plan on working, the Tourist visa is cheaper and probably better to go for.
If you apply for a 3rd, you won't get rejected. I went for my 4th Tourist Visa at Vientiane, I got it, but with that stamp. But at that time I was a newbie so I didn't even know about it. So I didn't go back on that same passport, but since my passport was only 24 pages, and pretty much filled up with the stamps and visas from Laos/Thai the past 4 times, it was already time for me to apply for a new passport anyways, so I will go there again soon to apply for another Tourist Visa because it's 4 Visas Per passport.
