Good Morning!

I arrived on a 30 Days visa (from the States). I’m thinking about staying for 60 additional days (90 total). Can I go to the embassy and pay to extend my visa an additional 60 Days or do I need to do boarder runs every 30 days?

Also, can you stay for 6 months (doing boarder runs) or is 6 months only possible with a special visa?

Thank you!

#todWhen there to Washington requirements must be: 1. Criminal record 2. Income Statement for 6months. 3. Address of the person whom you'll going to stay if their is/ or hotel accommodation. Purpose of visit / stay. 3. Medical record. 4. All insurance must be updated.

5. Voila! Multiple entry for Non-immigrant. Esp . THOSE 50 just 24 hours . Can go direct their w/o appointment too.

@Chr***
, what type and what basis would they be applying for a Non-immigrant visa? You can't just apply for one without meeting the criteria of that specific type, nor do they routinely issue year long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant visas.

you are confusing a couple things. There is no official limit to the time you can spend in thailand during 90 days, 6months or a year. Doesn't matter when you get an extension of stay.

There is a rule where you can only do TWO 30 day visa exempt entries in a calendar year. That means the year resets on Jan 1st 2018.

I guess you're in Chiang Mai, if so you go to the immigration office at the Promenada Mall.

Thanks for the info Tod Daniels and Jeremy Miller! I was 100% on how the stamp, border crossings add up!

We’ve been traveling SEA for a couple months and we weren’t sure how long exactly we wanted to stay when we arrived (still figuring it out) so we ended up just doing the 30 day.

If I extend my visa for 30 days before the end of 2017 (i.e. Dec 23rd), does that impact the time I can spend in Thailand for 2018? I believe it goes by calendar year... so if I got stamped in Dec 23, 2017, does 2018 take a hit because my visit rolled over into the following calendar year?

Lastly, can I go to the immigration office at the airport? Or, do I have to go to the office east of the river? I know you use to be able to go to the airport.

Thanks again!!!

just a note, there is NO thai embassy inside of thailand to get an extension you go to the thai immigration office ;)

If you got stamped in for 30 days you showed up here without any visa. :/ You can extend a "30 day visa exempt entry stamp" by 30 more days for 1900baht at the immigration office.

Then you'd need to leave the country and either border-bounce (stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and stamp right back into thailand) to get another 30 day visa exempt entry OR you would visa run and go to a thai consulate in another country to get a single entry tourist visa which would stamp you in for 60 days and you could extend by another 30 as well.

Why didn’t you just buy the 6 month METV in the first place? It’s the end of the year you can pay ฿1,900 at the immigration office or do a border bounce for DEC, then in
*********
you can do 2 land border bounces and 1 ฿1,900 30 day stamp at immigration....you can also fly Out/In as many times as you want

@Lopez ****
you have it backwards...you get 1, visa extension at immigration for ฿1,900.........2, Land border 30 day extensions in a calendar year .....you can also fly Out/In as much as you like

@Jeremy *******
I've only extended my tourist visas and visa exemptions (by air) and each time got the 30 day extension for 1900฿, but I didn't know they limit the 30 day extension for a land crossing to one time per year
Jeremy ********
@Lopez ****
the way it’s worded you get 2 land crossings and 1 visa extension for ฿1,900 at the immigration office...everyone that has been in Thailand more than 1 day understands its up to the Immigration Officer to authorize and endorse the stamp...so if what you’re saying is correct than do the stamp first then the 2 land crossings

@Jeremy *******
If someone does their 2nd land border, they can't extend that 2nd visa exemption for 30 days if they already extended their 1st land border? How long has it been like this?
Jeremy ********
@Daniel ***
calendar year is 1 JAN -31 DEC...so you get 2 land crossing and 1 visa extension for ฿1,900...so you can stay until 1 APR before you have to find another visa or fly Out/In
Jeremy ********
@Lopez ****
Ignorance is bliss I guess
Jason ******
It's not common for people to come to Thailand and be knowledgeable with the METV. Most people think they already have a tourist visa on arrival when they arrive to Thailand.
Jeremy ********
@Daniel ***
you get 2 land border crossing per calendar year, but can still fly Out/In as many times as possible
Jeremy ********
@Daniel ***
yes that’s the rule just one 30 day stamp at the immigration office for a calendar year....
