Do I need to keep 500,000 THB in my account for 3 months for a visa application from Hanoi?

Yes you do. It is also very likely they will ask for 6months as well to clarify. My friend warned me of this before hand, when I submitted my documents were very straight forward, I went ahead and submitted 4 months anyways and they still asked for 6 months. It was approved after that, took 12 days

How can I effectively deal with the 3MB limit for document submissions?

Yes that was a pain. I went on Google docs or slides and shoved as many pictures as I could on a page and then saved it as a PDF. It looked like a collage scapbook lol. A few pages. They will accept it as long as you can read everything.
