Robert Lagas and again you assumed because I merely pointed out the relaxed culture of the Thai Embassy in Australia that I dressed the same way - I’ve always been more than appropriate and you are wrong to make any assumptions otherwise!
And regardless of how you dress...not even Parliament House in Australia has clothing restrictions for the public...other than offensive material (images, words etc)...people do wear shorts, singlets and flip flops. And this is the norm in Australia. No one takes offence. It may be disrespectful to you, but it’s accepted Australia wide and is no disrespect to anyone. Hence probably why the Thai Embassy has not enforced any clothing restrictions locally there.
The only times where someone in Australia would expect a higher level of standard, is a wedding, funeral, job interview, some jobs, and black tie events...and if attending court it would be advisable but not required!
Robert Lagas get off your high horse...in Australia it’s a very relaxed country unlike a lot of SEA countries, and the Embassy staff their have adopted the Australian way of life very readily...and don’t assume by that fact, that I dress inappropriately or otherwise - I have never been asked to change my clothing by any Embassy or Consulate anywhere in the world in more than 20 years of travel!
Ambre Pablo Thai Embassy in Australia has no such clothing restrictions...so it was a surprise to me when I arrived in Thailand and traveled around SEA.
And make sure you collect your new visa the day it’s due - or they WILL cancel your new visa and you will have to go through the entire process again. They will give you a slip on the day stating this - but still people ignore it and get caught out...
Ohh and Vientiane is also strict on clothing, and will refuse to take your application...cover your shoulder and upper arms and legs to the knee at least and no showing too much cleavage
When I was there a month ago several people had to get changed before they would accept their application, and one person collected his new visa a day late and discovered it had been cancelled as warned...
I recommend going Tuesday or Friday...seem the less busy days...when I arrived at 8am only 10 people in line
yeah there is alway the risk of differing requirements depending what Embassy or Consulate you apply...as well as their different interpretations and flexibility offered...hence the reasons to always check first :))
it’s interesting, I’ve never been asked for previous passport in nearly 20 years of travel 🙂
Never heard of it before...is it in their list of requirements or is something they verbally asks for?
You also said they asked “if” you had it, so why if you had said you had destroyed it (as it’s no longer needed)...would that have prevented them from processing your application?
