You have plenty of time to apply for a tourist visa. Probably best to get a 6 month multi entry visa as much as you visit. Sometimes taking that extra step can help you sleep easier.

The rules are official and clearly spelled out when you apply for the DTV. Everytime you cross an international border you should be prepared to prove you have funds. It is normal for any immigration agent in any country to ask this question if they fell it’s necessary. It’s their actual job to weed out the riffraf.
They won’t even let you out of the country in some land based border run situations. They are requiring you to fly. That’s what some people have been posting anyway.
Most financial analysts would recommend a series of equal transfers. Be it monthly, weekly or whatever. That way you will be close to the actual yearly average. Timing the markets rarely works out except in specific situations.
They usually add the transfer fee on top of the cost. I did once do a transfer of 65,000 and it ended up being 65,000.25 baht. So now I add extra to the 65k just in case the transaction takes off .25 or something wonky.
